5 movies to binge if you’re a tax pro or accountant
May 18, 2021
Now that you’ve successfully finished yet another extended tax season, it’s time to sit back for a minute, grab a snack, and relax! To help you check out, here’s five movies tax pros or accountants to watch featuring situations that we hope aren’t too familiar after this busy tax season!
- Office Space – (R) Probably more relatable than you’d like to admit, this one’s a classic for a reason. Unlike Milton, staples are a tax pro’s foe. And don’t worry – WE won’t make you watch this on a Saturday if you don’t want to.
- The Accountant – (R) The title makes this an obvious choice. The 2016 action-thriller, starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons and others, follows a CPA with a high-functioning form of autism who makes his living uncooking the books of criminal and terrorist organizations around the world.
- Wolf of Wall Street – (R) This one you’re not going to want to watch with any little ones hanging around, but that’s what makes this movie fun. Whether you’re watching the original or the 2013 version, you’ll be on the edge of your seat wondering, “there’s no way this is a true story, right?!” Spoiler alert: it mostly is.
- The Untouchables – (R) No one thought there was a way to take down legendary crime boss Al Capone, until Eliot Ness made it his mission to bring Capone to justice. Capone’s final mistake that put him behind bars? 22 counts of tax evasion.
- Stranger than Fiction – (PG-13) Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) is definitely not the IRS auditor you want to be working with. Stranger Than Fiction is the story of an IRS auditor who lives the monotonous life you’d expect, but suddenly finds himself hearing a voice that only he can register. It begins to narrate his entire life and eventually his potential death.
- BONUS: The Royal Tennanbaums – (R) Wes Anderson movies aren’t for everyone, but if you enjoy a good story and beautiful filmmaking, The Royal Tennanbaums is a must. In this movie, Danny Glover plays Henry Sherman, the dependable, bow-tied accountant who provides some sense of stability and normalcy in the whirlwind that is the Tennenbaum family. Henry is the exact image of what people picture when you say accounting, and even published his own book on personal finance.
