2022 Tax Season Updates FAQs

At the end of each year, NATP hosts workshops across the country for tax professionals to catch up on the latest tax law changes, guidance and IRS updates before the start of the next year’s tax season. After all, there’s a lot that can happen between Tax Day and the end of the year.

This year’s Tax Season Updates will take place in more than 70 cities across the country, meaning there’s bound to be an event near you. Join us this year to prepare yourself for what is sure to be another unforgettable tax season.

If you can’t join in person, we’re also hosting Updates virtually via live, on-demand and simulcast experiences.

Q: When and where are the Tax Season Updates?

A: Our live Tax Season Updates events take place in more than 70 cities around the country with the first one starting in October. Each event is a two-day workshop, starting at 8 a.m. local time to 4:30 p.m.

Q: Do I get a discount on registration if I’m an NATP member?

A: NATP members receive discounted registration on all delivery methods. Virtual Tax Season Updates is included with Premium level NATP membership.

Q: What if I can’t make it to a live event?

A: We’re offering a few different ways to attend Updates virtually. The first is our virtual workshop, which has all the interactive components of live education you love, but online. Another option is to attend an Updates workshop on demand, which allows you to review information and watch the virtual sessions on your own time.

Q: What topics will be covered?

A: We’ll be covering issues you’ll likely see in the 2023 tax season, such as the §121 exclusion for sales of primary residences for various scenarios, reporting cryptocurrency and NFT transactions, reporting a 1099-K received for different activities and analyzing §1031 exchanges. Business topics include filing Schedules K-2 and K-3 to report certain items of international tax relevance and determining basis for both S corporation shareholders and partners in a partnership. 

Q: What if there’s an influential update that happens after my Tax Season Updates workshop?

A: Registration with every type of Tax Season Updates includes an on-demand webinar that will be available to you in January covering any last-minute tax law changes.

Q: What else can I expect from Tax Season Updates?

A: Registration for any of our Updates events includes an e-book (in-person attendees will receive a textbook as well), presentation slides, a quick reference desk card and an on-demand webinar in January covering any last-minute tax law changes.

Q: I already went to Taxposium/Tax Forums. Do I really need to go to an Update event too?

A: Yes! Our Tax Season Updates are solely focused on preparing you specifically for preparing 2022 tax returns in the 2023 tax season. Information presented in our Tax Season Updates is the most up-to-date available, meaning you’ll be prepared to serve your clients with excellence.

Q: What’s a simulcast event?

A: Hosted by local NATP chapters and presented virtually by NATP instructors, the simulcast experience allows you to connect with local tax preparers. The NATP instructor will display the live-streamed content via broadcast platform to watch as a group. A chapter facilitator will be available to ask the instructor questions on behalf of the location’s attendees. In between topics, you’ll be able to network and discuss local issues with other attendees.

Q: How many CPE do I get from a Tax Season Updates event?

A: 16 CPE are available for AFSP, EA, CPA, CRTP and CFP® designations for the in-person, virtual, on-demand and simulcast events.
