New online trainings offered this fall

As a reputable tax preparer, we don’t have to tell you the importance of continuing education. Whether you’re just starting out in your career or are an experienced pro, we have education for all levels of knowledge. Our online trainings are a great way to take a deep dive into tax topics that, over three sessions, use videos, interactive modules and live case studies with an instructor available for questions.

We’re offering multiple online trainings this fall, all of which can be taken individually or built upon to create a better understanding of complicated tax topics. Here’s a quick preview to learn more:

Basics of Business Entity Taxation: This course is for the tax preparer or their staff who need to know how to prepare a basic business return. We’ll walk through procedures to complete basic returns for partnerships, S corporations and C corporations. At the end, we’ll use a case study to test your knowledge.

Resolving Complicated Partnership & S Corporation Activity: Enhance your tax business by expanding your knowledge of partnership and S corporation taxation. Partnership topics include guaranteed payments, making the §754 election, changes in partner ownership and hot assets. S corporation topics include reasonable compensation for shareholders, built-in-gains (BIG) tax and changes in shareholder ownership.

Introduction to Tax Preparation: If you’re looking for a jumping off point to learn the basics of tax preparation, this is it. This course outlines the basics of individual income tax reporting with a step-by-step analysis of Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, and its accompanying schedules. If you have new staff on your team, this is a great way to get them up to speed.

Introduction to Schedules C & E: This course is for the tax pro who knows the basics of tax prep but need to know more about expanded forms and concepts such as preparing a return for a sole proprietorship, a rental property activity and pass-through income from Schedule K-1s.

Reporting Unique Form 1040 Transactions: Tax preparers encounter quite a few unusual circumstances, even when preparing Forms 1040. We’ll review the foreign income exclusion, employee stock benefits (including ISOs), restricted stock units and employee stock purchasing plans. We’ll also show you the proper reporting for a publicly traded partnership Schedule K-1, a claim of right, the sale of a life estate and like-kind exchanges.
